Catbalogan City’s Manaragat Festival captured the 2015 Aliwan Fiesta streetdance championship with a decisive win over four-time champion Lumad Basakanon of Cebu in a highly-awaited showdown last Saturday, April 25. Craftsmen from the town of Pinabacdao then made it a back-to-back victory for Samar by winning the float design competition as well. And in yet another upset win, Stephanie Joy Abellanida representing the Midsayap Halad festival of North Cotabato, was crowned Festival Queen, after besting 20 other beauties in this year’s Reyna ng Aliwan pageant.
Rounding up the top five in the streetdance competition were Pinabacdao’s Mayaw-Mayaw festival in third place, followed by the Sakuting festival of Dolores, Abra as fourth over-all, and the Meguyaya festival ensemble of Upi, Maguindanao in fifth place. Among the floatmakers, the Sagayan festival of Datu Piang, Maguindanao took second place, with Abra’s Sakuting festival coming in third.
Abellanida’s court included Alexandra Faith Garcia of Zambales as first-runner up, with Cebu’s Gazzini Christiana Ganados, Bulacan’s Vianca Louise Marcelo, and Isabela’s Jaymee Lou Pagulayan sharing 2nd runner-up honors. Garcia, a bemedalled triathlete from Olongapo, was also adjudged Most Photogenic and Best in Swimsuit, while Ganados was named Best in Evening Gown (Dazzling Beauty), with Marcelo bringing home the prize for Miss Unique Smile.
